Event 3
For this event I went to a color light motion by Toni Dove. Toni Dove essentially creates hybrid performance, installation and screen-based art that incorporates film, game or instrument-based interaction with experimental theater. I was relatively new to this as I had never really seen any color light motion projects before. But I did find them to be quite unique and enjoyable. During the course of the presentation Dove showed different projects. The first project that she showed was a show called the lasso. These yellow lights were moving around everywhere while a blue sculpture was there in the background. It demonstrated a thing called an uncanny bell where the motion based sculpture looks almost like a human.
The next project she showed off was a show called Lucid Possession. This one was probably my favorite one out of all the ones shown. During the show in Brooklyn the tvs turn off and on and make static noises to provide a spooky vibe. The woman appearing on the screen tells a story of how she’s now experiencing lucid possession without knowing it. She wakes up at random areas and experiences different points of views. She thinks she is haunted but what actually occurs is that her being so invested in her work is giving her supernatural abilities making her experience lucid possession.
Another cool project shown was the robot dress that eats souls . Here the inanimate object is trying to copy a human which we see is a pretty common theme in a lot of these projects. If a viewer stands in front of the dress and moves , the dress will mirror their movement. It behaves as if you are wearing it. The whole experience is rather chilly as it gives you a very unique experience.
